BREAKOUT SESSION 3A
Trauma as a Helping Professional: Practical Strategies for Compassion Fatigue
People in the helping professions work through the most challenging of times due to their direct involvement with people who are often very traumatized. However, we are not often trained to understand the impacts that secondary traumatic stress and vicarious traumatization have on us, including the development of compassion fatigue. In order to maintain our ability to “suit up and show up” we have to understand what compassion fatigue looks and feels like and how to address it when it becomes a part of our lives.
Objectives:
-
Participants will understand trauma and traumatic experiences and be able to identify the five types of trauma.
-
Participants will understand the symptoms of compassion fatigue and learn how to apply wellness practices as an intervention.
